Share Your Story and Help Others Think Differently about Weight

Your experiences with weight and your connection to obesity are unique to you. When you turn them into personal stories, they have the power to change lives.

For the OAC, stories are essential for helping people think differently about obesity. They humanize obesity and put real faces behind challenges with weight. Connecting with a human being is far more powerful than seeing statistics on a screen. In fact, personal stories are up to 22 times more powerful than just facts alone.

We challenge you to use this special video-sharing platform, Weight of the World, to vocalize your experiences with weight and tell your story. You can share about your journey with weight, your challenges, victories, words of inspiration or support, or any story that you think is important to tell. What you share can be of support to others with similar experiences and bring greater understanding to the complex topics of weight and obesity.

Don’t Know Where to Start? Here are Some Examples of What to Share:

  1. Have you ever been impacted by obesity stigma, weight bias, or judged in any way for your weight? If so, how?
  2. Do you think your weight has affected your mental or physical health? If so, how?
  3. What parts of your journey with weight do you consider to be successes or learning experiences?
  4. What are some of the biggest challenges/obstacles you’ve faced on your journey with weight?
  5. What do you wish more people understood about obesity?
  6. What paths or treatment options have you taken to manage your weight? Has taking these avenues benefited or challenged you?
  7. How would you describe your relationship with weight, your body, or related factors such as food and exercise?

(*Remember, these are only examples of what you can share. Feel free to share something different, as long as it’s true to your experiences and meets our video guidelines.)
